Urge the United Nations to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

Urge the United Nations to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

The Issue

Over 700,000 people worldwide die as a result of antimicrobial resistant infections each year. Despite tremendous need for new antibiotics, research and development of these life-saving drugs continues to dwindle. Resistant infections can strike anyone and jeopardize the success of a wide array of medical care, including complex surgeries, organ and bone marrow transplants, joint replacements and chemotherapy. Without action to prevent infections and reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and research to discover and develop new antibiotics, the problem will worsen.
