The Independence of Kurdistan: Free the Kurds

The Issue

The Kurds have defended not only their homeland and people, they have sought to protect the world from terrorists, oppressors and warmongers. The Kurds provided support to Britain during the World Wars. Without international recognition or a country of their own, the Kurds persisted despite their deprivation to form 10 companies in the Iraq Levies during World War II and prominent figures such as Lady Adela provided shelter and refugee to soldiers during World War I. However, in the 1920s Britain betrayed the Kurds and broke their promise to uphold Kurdish independence in the Treaties of Sevres and Lausanne. The Allied Powers followed to disregard the recognition and human rights of the Kurds. This is an international disgrace upon the doctrine of human rights and self-determination.

The Kurds defeated ISIS on the front lines and protected people in the midst of hostility from numerous countries and sheltered refugees with their limited resources. Yet, the United States of America once again failed to remain loyal to the Kurds despite their over a decade long alliance against ISIS terrorists. Hence, the Kurds have faced betrayal far too often.

The Kurds are descendants of ancient Prophets (such as Prophet Abraham and henceforth) and warriors of which consist of the Medes and Hurrians. It is about time the Kurds get their recognition, birth-rights and human rights protected and regain their security within their homeland. The Kurds have not only lost millions of their own; they have lost the opportunity to develop their country, their fertile lands and rightful claim to their oil and resources. For decades the Kurds have been abused and subjugated to violence, torture and airstrikes by the countries we consider democratic. Their homeland is not your field of mass destruction. Once and for all, we must proclaim that war and death is not the answer. The Kurds deserve the chance to advance their lives and their country; the Kurds deserve their human rights and independence.

We call upon the United Nations to conduct an enquiry and meeting to reconcile the freedom of Kurdistan. Thank you.
