Great Hammerhead Sharks are the largest species of the Hammerhead Shark Family. These mystical creatures are going extinct faster than ever(Critically Endangered IUCN Redlist) due to the shark fin trade, and most recently the effects of bycatching done by commercial fishermen. For the Hammerheads, getting hooked accidentally is an automatic death sentence - A study has shown that hammerheads can only survive 4 minutes after they are hooked onto Longlines, and most end up dead by the time they are reeled up. More than 90 percent of great hammerheads die once they are captured by targeted or incidental fisheries. The only way to stop the killing of the hammerheads is to enforce the global implementation of the use of more sustainable fishing gear, and stricter measures of documentation bycaught marine life.
