To the UN Security Council: a plea to intervene to Stop the Bloodshed in Ethiopia

Oromos have been continuously protesting for the past nine months against marginalization and Injustice in Ethiopia. During this time, over 800 Oromos have been brutalized, over 30,000 -50,000 have been detained and large numbers have disappeared by the government’s security forces. The Amhara Regional state people joined the protest in August 2016. Since then, over 30 Amharas have been killed, and many others have been arrested.

Many International human rights organizations such as HRW, AI, and the HRLHA have documented the gross human rights violations  in Ethiopia over the last two decades. Their reports have caught the attention of government agencies such as the EU parliament and UN human rights experts.

Recently  the UN Human Rights Commissioner has called for a probe into the killings of protesters  in Oromia & Ahmara regional states by the  Ethiopian government.  In response, the government of Ethiopia  promptly rejected  the UN human rights chief’s call
