Importance of the Ekiti/Osun court case

Nigeria’s politicians and informed elites acknowledge that the 1999 constitution is a fraud. It was a military decree: Decree No 24 promulgated by General Abdulsalami on 5 May 1999. The General knew that his decree could only have the force of law under a civilian regime if the people ratified it in a referendum. So, he faked ratification. He wrote in the decree ‘we the people’. This is misrepresentation, a fraud because the people never ratified the Abdulsalami decree. The people were never consulted.

No ratification by the people means that the 1999 document purporting to be Nigeria’s constitution is invalid, null and void, and of no legal effect. No ratification means no constitution.
·      Constitution makes a country. Invalid constitution means no Nigeria and no legitimate government.
·      Constitution makes laws. Fraudulent constitution means no valid election laws.
·      The Ekiti/Osun case directly challenged the legitimacy of elections held under the fraudulent 1999 constitution.
·      The plaintiffs, Ekiti/Osun voters, asked the courts to stop the 2022 governorship elections in their states because their voting right would be infringed and violated if elections were permitted to hold under the fraudulent 1999 constitution.

This is a public interest case, which concerns all Yoruba worldwide. It deserves the support of all Yoruba individuals and organisations.
