Your Excellency,
We, the undersigned hereby in affirm our full effort to join hands with the people of the world, to find, "Tibet's lost Panchen Lama" Gedhun Choekyi Nyima.
17th May, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the abduction and enforced disappearance of the world’s youngest political prisoner, Gendun Choekyi Nyima. Two days after the announcement of his recognition as the 11th Panchen Lama by H.H the 14th Dalai Lama, he was abducted along with his entire family from his home by the Chinese communist regime. Missing for 25 years since his recognition, Tibetan Women’s Associations manifests and reiterates the deep concern of Tibetans, Tibet supporters and Tibetan Buddhists around the world of his safety and whereabouts. The monotonous statements presented by the representative of Chinese Communist Party that “Gendun Choekyi Nyima and his family are now living a good life as ordinary citizens in Tibet” is unconvincing and unacceptable without evidence of proof of his existence and well being.
Traditionally, Panchen Lama plays an integral and essential role in recognizing the reincarnation of Dalai Lama and vice versa. For Tibetans, The Panchen Lama is not only a highly revered spiritual figure but also a persona who holds significant importance in Tibetan human rights struggle. The previous Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrup Choekyi Gyaltsen spoke out multiple times against Chinese regime. He penned down 70,000 words petition against the Chinese Communist Party highlighting genocide of Tibetan culture, language and identity. As a result, he was incarcerated and died in jail of suspicious circumstances in 1989.
Despite numerous appeals made over the years by Tibet Support Groups, world leaders, parliamentarians and international bodies for religious freedom and human rights, the whereabouts and well being of Panchen Lama has still not been established, thus making him the world’s longest-held prisoners of conscience.
It is obvious that the abduction of 11th Panchen Lama was carried by Chinese Communist Party to control religious freedom in Tibet and to break the influence of Dalai Lama. The tragedy of Gendun Choekyi Nyima provides us a glimpse of tragic reality in Tibet. 25 years after his abduction, Tibetans have never forgotten Gendun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet.
We, The Tibetan Women’s Association, hereby appeals:
• To bring into discussion the whereabouts and well being of Gendun Choekyi Nyima face to face with China at international forums and to force China to disclose information regarding his existence.
• To hold China accountable for the abduction of Gendun Choekyi Nyima and his family and pressurize them for their immediate release.
• To stop China from violating human rights against ethnic minorities in Chinese occupied regions.
• To ensure that China doesn’t involve and participate in the selection of the reincarnation of Dalai Lama as a part of their political scheme against the wish of Tibetan Buddhist practitioners and followers of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has made it clear that if he dies in exile, his reincarnation will be born in exile.
Hence, the members of the Tibetan Women's Association, and its supporters reiterate that the Chinese Communist regime must come out with the truth about the Panchen Lama's whereabouts and well being with evidence of proof to the world.
