The Galápagos Islands are in critical danger. While the Ecuadorian Islands are considered part of UNESCO’s World Heritage, one of the largest biodiverse reserves in the world, and home to the largest shark biomass in the world. There is a zone separating the mainland and the archipelago, this route is considered international waters even though it is a major migration route for many endangered species.

What is happening today is not new, this can be traced back to 2017 when Chinese vessels crossed into the Galapagos protected area ILLEGALLY and fished thousands of hammerhead sharks and other endangered species, they were caught by the Ecuadorian government and jailed.

In 2018, more than 200 Chinese boats were spotted, surrounding the Islands, more specially the very small route separating the mainland and the island, which marine animals can quite obviously not detect the human made “borders”.

Now, more than 250 boats have been discovered forming a uniformed line surrounding the protected area, and the number of dead whales, dolphins, sharks and many other animals have increased.

These atrocities are not being voiced out by the government or by the news. Ecuadorians are frustrated that these islands are being violated brutally without a fight back. Preserving nature is of outmost importance, and the Chinese government cannot be allowed to keep exploiting and destroying ecosystems and the environment.

We want to EXPAND the marine territory of the Galapagos as it is clearly being abused, we want to PROTECT all wildlife. The Galápagos Islands and it’s inhabitants are a World Heritage, and its life, dignity, and respect is being stripped away.

Las Islas Galápagos están en peligro. Estas islas ecuatorianas se consideran parte del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO, una de las reservas de biodiversidad más grandes del mundo y el hogar de la biomasa de tiburones más grande del mundo. Hay una zona que separa el continente y el archipiélago, esta ruta se considera aguas internacionales a pesar de que es una importante ruta de migración para muchas especies en peligro de extinción.

Lo que está sucediendo hoy no es por primera vez, esto se puede rastrear a 2017 cuando los barcos chinos cruzaron ILEGALMENTE al área protegida de Galápagos y pescaron miles de tiburones martillo y otras especies en peligro de extinción, fueron capturados por el gobierno ecuatoriano y encarcelados. En 2018, se detectaron más de 200 barcos chinos, que rodean las islas, específicamente la pequeña ruta que separa el continente y las islas. Pero los animales marinos obviamente no pueden detectar las "fronteras" hechas por hombre.

Ahora, se han descubierto más de 250 botes que forman una línea uniforme que rodea el área protegida, y el número de ballenas muertas, delfines, tiburones y muchos otros animales encontrados han aumentado.

Estas atrocidades no están siendo reportadas por el gobierno o por las noticias. Los ecuatorianos están frustrados porque estas islas están siendo violadas brutalmente sin luchar. Preservar la naturaleza es de suma importancia, y no se puede permitir que el gobierno chino siga explotando y destruyendo ecosistemas y el medio ambiente.

Queremos EXPANDIR el territorio marino de Galápagos ya que claramente se está abusando, queremos PROTEGER toda la vida silvestre. Las Islas Galápagos y sus habitantes son Patrimonio de la Humanidad, y su vida, dignidad y respeto están siendo despojados. ¡Por favor ayúdenos a proteger!
