The Issue

The fifth UN Global Road Safety Week will be observed between 6th and 12th May 2019. This year’s theme is “leadership for road safety.”   Leaders mobilize and influence others towards a determined vision. We need focused leadership if we are to achieve the transport and safety Sustainable Development Goals 3.6 and 11.2 by reducing road crashes by 50% by 2020 and providing access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all by 2030.

Kenya loses over 3,000 people annually most of whom are young people.Children walking to and from school are particularly vulnerable due to lack of infrastructure that supports walking. Several others are injured and even acquire disability. We would like to join the rest of the world and generate demand for strong leadership that will lead to evidence based interventions that will save lives and inspire leaders to act. Leaders are found at the global, national, community and individual levels.

Join us as we speak up and demand for:
1. Safe journeys
2. Improvement of existing infrastructure
3. Management of speed on our roads
4. Leadership in road safety
