Protect animals from rape, torture, confinement, abuse, neglect, slaughter
If it has a heart, have a heart. Nervous systems, brains and hearts make the animals different from plants. They are similar to us and we wouldn't want to be treated as we treat the animals. They are not ours to own. They own themselves. We have stolen them and taken their joy of living away from them. It is more efficient to focus our energy on growing plant foods for human consumption and rid ourselves of unnecessary violence, pollution and devastation.
