It should really be considered seriously, there were even a collision of spacecraft due to confusion between Metric and Imperial system even among scientists, so think of Commoners how confused they should be ??

It took hundreds of years to standardize a common International unit called Metric System (CGS - Centimeter Gram Second, ºC, Liters, Hectare etc) which is used by 190/193 UN recognized countries in the world.

Only countries in the world using Imperial system (old units - Miles, Pounds, ºF, Galoon, Acre etc) are USA, Liberia and Myanmar (Formerly Burma).

But the problem is USA is infecting all other countries around the world with imperial system due to it's massive Export (~ USA GDP accounts to $17 trillion - highest in the world).

For example, all the products from USA, like Cloths, tools, product sizes all of them in Imperial units etc which confuses the world so much that, every person need to remember the conversion formula.

 

So i am requesting Government of India to implement Metric Implementation Act (MIA), which would enforce,

Provisions:

1. Indian Government to use Metric units in all official documents like Land documents (to use Meter2, Hectare and km2) instead of (Feet2, Grounds and Acres), Indian manufactured products should only use Centimeters/Meters etc and not Inches.

2. All the imported products from foreign country into India to be marked in Metric units.

3. Do not initially ban the imperial units, but implement extra tax for products using the Imperial system, which should be done in a phased manner (every 6 months tax should be increased higher), so that in couple of years.

 

Highlights of the Metric system is given below.,

Metric System:

Length:

1km = 1000m (At least this is not confused as we use km)

1m = 100cm (as we use km system, meter units is pretty easy for us to understand rather than inches)

1cm = 10mm (cm should completely replace inches)

1mm= 1000 micrometer etc

Area:

1km2 = 100 hectare (km2 used for massive area calculation, like school, colleges, companies, cities, even planets !!)

1hectare = 10,000 m2 (can be replaced to use with Acres)

1m2 = 10,000 cm2 (m2 used instead of ft2 or square feet)

Volume:

1m3 = 1000 liters

1m3 = 1,000,000 cm3 (used to calculate water capacity in small ponds etc)

1km3 = 1,000,000,000 m3 (massive volume to calculate water capacity in dams, rivers and even seas and oceans)

Pressure:

1 Bar = 10 decibar (used for tyre pressure instead of using psi)

1 Bar = 1000 mb (millibar used to understand pressure of any region of city)

Temperature:

ºC = Here too there is a bit of Fahrenheit pollution.

For example, Human body temperature is ~38ºC [over 39ºC is fever, under 36ºC is low body temp] (which we can understand because the city temperature is around 25ºC in winter and 40ºC in summer), but ºF feels like totally foreign term which is unuseful !!

 

Reason why Metric system is better than Imperial system is because Metric system uses Base 10 system (called Indian-Arabic numeral system) invented in India even before Jesus was born, which is now an International standard too.

Also, we should understand even USA is trying to convert the units from Imperial to Metric in a phased manner by adopting Federal Metric policies.
