I want you to know I'm grateful you have taken a stand to help me save and carry on the legacy of black history, especially in the church in Denver, NC. Today, I want to share we are making progress. I'm waiting to hear from the president of UMC bishop council. I'm requesting UMC to donate the church to my church's community development nonprofit organization Fresh Start-South. I'm the founder of this work and it stays in the building stages of God's work while staying in the bloodline of my forefathers.
I also wanted to share how emotional this has been for me. As I think about my grandmother and how she loved her church and family. Her heart would be shattered to see her family church destroyed and transferred to someone who would erase her great-grandfather labor after slaves were freed. I remember each year she would ask everyone she talked to if they would give a donation to her church. As I know my plate is full with a list of to-dos. I know I have to honor my grandmother's legacy to do the will of the Lord.
In addition, I call out an unethical action practiced by the UMC denomination profiting from a people's property they didn't even invest one dollar to purchase of the property but can sell it for the current market rate. My hope and prayer UMC will do the right thing.
Finally, I wanted to share a personal connection with Brevard's Chapel I hold close to my heart. This past weekend, 22 years ago, September 12th, my husband and I exchanged our vows at Brevard Chapel. We were the last members married at the church. If things don't change, we will never have an opportunity to step into the church ever again.
Now we need to continue to spread the word to make this petition huge. We are slightly over 300 our next goal is 500 signatures. Will you share on social media, text & email? If enough of us sign we can build an unstoppable call for change! Here's a link http://chng.it/JyMjbjP
