This letter serves to update you on the situation at Herzlia Dafna and to act as a call for support to help achieve the long term sustainability of Herzlia Dafna and the Milnerton Jewish community at large. After a long deliberation on the future of Dafna, the United Herzlia Schools (UHS) board recently announced that they took the decision to keep Herzlia Dafna open. This is good news for all past and present Dafna parents, teachers and the broader Milnerton Jewish community. However, this positive outcome comes with certain requirements and goals that must be attained on an ongoing basis. These include sustained enrolment with attendance of at least 15 children per class, increased income via new enrolments, fundraising and the reduction of operational costs. Following the meetings with and in response to the call for a "working group" from the UHS School Committee, a number of people have willingly given their personal time and have set up the Dafna Community Forum (DCF). The three main priorities of the DCF are: (1) to increase new enrolment at Herzlia Dafna through various marketing activities, (2) to help reduce the operational costs of Herzlia Dafna, and to increase revenue with fundraising activities. (3) All of the above will be in consultation with and in support of the UHS School Committee, Dafna PTA and the Principal of Dafna. The DCF has already started to put together a strategy and an action plan to achieve these goals. It is important to note that the long term sustainability of Dafna and the Milnerton Jewish community goes hand in hand with the sustainability of the Milnerton Hebrew Congregation (MHC). As part of our process, full consultation with and support will be provided to the MHC (and vice versa). Over the past few months, a lot of people have shown support for Herzlia Dafna by attending the meetings with the UHS Committee, liking the Save Herzlia Dafna Facebook page and signing the Save Herzlia Dafna petition. The success of the DCF is wholly dependent on further participation and commitment by these same people. You. You are the past, present and future of the Milnerton Jewish community and the long term stability of Herzlia Dafna and the Milnerton Hebrew Congregation. With your continued support, our community will continue to flourish. The first step for the DCF is to garner names and contact details of those of you that are interested in being involved with the DCF through passive or active support.
