New Parks for Union Square

New Parks for Union Square
The Issue
Centrally located, sunny parks provide places for residents of all ages to relax, play, and interact. Union Square is slated for several new parks tied to the ongoing redevelopment efforts.
It's time to engage the community and make good on the City and the developer's commitments to design and develop these parks. Great parks come from great planning!
We petition for:
- US2 to engage and allow public discourse on the decision of where to locate a future Union Square 'Neighborhood Park' on either the site of the Public Safety Building (D1) or the site of Citizens Bank (D7). Both options should be presented with equivalent design descriptions and drawings, so residents can weigh in on the decision. Thus far, US2 has only shown one option to the public, and we must wonder why? Why haven't residents been given a say in where their new park is located?
- Mayor Curtatone and the Board of Aldermen to develop a plan for the acquisition, design, and construction of a park on Charlestown Street, consistent with the Union Square Neighborhood Plan. The site is currently owned by the MBTA and is slated for temporary use. We cannot let this great idea remain a distant future possibility that moves further from our grasp.
