So today, like most of you, I was trawling the various news websites and came across the idea of changing the name Golden Gaytime, and as an openly gay Australian man, I can't think of anything more ludicrous. The reasoning given within the petition for change was unfounded, and after many conversations with other members of my community, they are all in agreeance with me - enough is enough.

This petition asking for change has very little to do with the Gay community or the LGBTI+ community as a whole. The petition creator says multiple times that it isn't about them, yet speaks so openly within the reasoning for the petition about their own personal struggles as a gay man.

The rationale behind a name-change is flawed. Streets are not making any money off of the use of the colloquist double-entendre of "gay" nor are they using it in a discriminatory manner. They are making money off of the fact that Gaytimes are an Aussie icon and a damn good ice-cream. 

No petition speaks for the community and I abhor any community member that says it does. But cancel culture has reached its point and has forced this normally reserved gay man to come out and agree with many figures...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
