Unify Baldwin, NY—Ensure Fair Redistricting in the Town of Hempstead!

The Issue

Dear Town of Hempstead Town Board:

We, the Baldwin residents, business owners, and dedicated community members, wish to make clear that the entire Hamlet of Baldwin must be made into ONE Town of Hempstead council district beginning in 2023. For the last decade, Baldwin has been broken up into three town council districts (1, 4, and 5), diluting the representation our community deserves on the Hempstead Town Board. While other communities in the Town such as Oceanside and Garden City have benefitted from being entirely in one district, our community has not.

Baldwin is a large, ethnically, racially, and politically diverse hamlet with over 33,000 residents living from the Southern State Parkway to the shores of  Middle Bay. We are united in our drive to improve our downtown and business districts, to invest in our parks and public spaces, to make our roadways safer for all users, and to create a cohesive community that does not leave out any of our neighbors.  To do this, we need a single town council member that can and will represent all of us in Baldwin. We deserve and expect no less.

Requested Boundaries: The entire Hamlet of Baldwin, which encompasses all of the 11510 zip code, must be placed entirely within one Town of Hempstead council district. The district should stretch from the Southern State Parkway to the north, to the Middle Bay shoreline to the south, and from the South Hempstead/Rockville Centre/Oceanside border to the west, to the Roosevelt/Freeport border to the east.

Sincerely,

The Baldwin Community
