The Issue

We’re nearing the 8/31 deadline and need your help!

At the Gilbert Baker Foundation, we believe there can never be too much pride.

But right now, there are only two emoji pride flags. One is the Trans Flag, and the other is the Rainbow Flag, created by Gilbert Baker in 1978. A flag that brought color to the queer community and changed the world—because flags are more than just a piece of fabric. They give people something to believe in, stand alongside, and wave with pride.

Out of Gilbert Baker’s vision for the future, countless other queer identities have blossomed and designed flags of their own. And it’s time they get the respect and representation they deserve.

In that spirit, we’ve created this petition for the Unicode Consortium, the governing body of emojis, to strongly encourage them to add more pride flags to their next keyboard update.

Each one gives people a way to show the world who they are and how they love. Something Gilbert Baker would be proud to support.

Please join us in our campaign to add more color, more love, and more Emojis of Pride!

Download our Emojis of Pride Keyboard on Apple iOS while we wait for the official update.
