It's been almost 2 years since this petition was created but good things take time, as they say. And 2019 is the year we enjoy the fruit of our labor – the Unicode Consortium has officially updated its 12.0 version with a flamingo emoji!
Per Emojipedia, the new set of emojis is released on March 5 and will roll out across devices in the following months (around August for Android users and October/November for iOS), adding people with disabilities and gender inclusive couples as well, among others.
Big thanks to all 4 of you who supported this great cause. Your contribution has been invaluable. All jokes aside, it's great to see how upon every update, those little emojis have become more representative of our diverse world; let alone with an awfully cute flamingo in there.
