UNICEF Zimbabwe recently issued a statement condeming the use of disappeared activist Itayi Dzamara's children at the commeoration of their father's birthday. The UNICEF Zimbabwe communications specialist, Elizabeth Bessie Mupfumira is the daughter of the Public, Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister who is a prominent Zanu PF member. The statement was not issued on the best interests of the children but to cast the Dzamara children in bad light. There is a video from July of Zimbabwean police beating up women and children and that of a 10month old baby that was tear-gassed that the UNICEF did not comment on. We cannot have UNICEF catering to the political whims of the ruling party.
