Unfair Rates for Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) Drivers

The Issue

I am a PHV driver, trying like so many of us to generate a fair income to support our families. It's becoming increasingly difficult due to the fierce competition among local ride hailing companies. These companies, driven by rivalry, continually decrease fares which leave drivers like us with unreasonably low income, even during peak hours and periods of inclement weather.

We firmly believe that the income we earn ought to reflect the services we provide, especially during peak hours and challenging weather conditions such as rainfall when the demand for our services are quite high. In such conditions, not only do we provide reliable transit, but we also put ourselves at risk on the roads to ensure that our passengers get to their destinations safely and in a timely manner.

Yet despite these unique challenges, our income remains unjustifiably low. This current model is unsustainable, putting significant financial stress on drivers and our families. It is time for authorities to intervene and ensure fair compensation for our services, commitment, and risks we take every day.

We thus urgently appeal to the relevant local authorities to look into this matter, review the rate model for ride hailing apps, and establish a fairer, more sustainable earning model for PHV drivers.

Please join us in calling for action by signing this petition. Your support can lead to a significant change in the well-being of PHV drivers and, by extension, our families.
