We would like to disclose the ever extending Great Wall of China.

The Chinese government’s elongation of the Great Wall is worsening as years go by.

The National Administration of Cultural Heritage(国家文物局) had announced the length of the Great wall as 6,000 km in the mid 2000s and as 8,851 km in 2009, and then extended it to 21,196.18 km in 2012.

Even as of 2020, China is distortedly promoting worldwide that the Great Wall had extended to Pyongyang of the Korean peninsula.

The fortresses of the Goguryeo Kingdom(37 B.C.E. - C.E. 668) and Balhae Kingdom(C.E. 698 - 926) from Korean history is now being included in the Great Wall of China.

The Chinese government has been making a distorted claim that, based on the current border, all fortresses within its territory are parts of the Great Wall of China, and through this, China is trying to make Goguryeo and Balhae into Chinese history.

However, KOREA, the present English name of Korea, has become widely known all over the world by the name of Goryeo(C.E. 918 - 1392), and Wang Geon, the founder of Goryeo, had internationally declared that Goryeo succeeded Goguryeo.

Despite the clear fact that the name and culture of Goguryeo comes from the ancient Korean kingdom consisted of Korean people, China distorting the history of Goguryeo as Chinese history, is a part of the Northeast Project.

The Northeast Project is a research project promoted by the Chinese government between 2002 and 2007 to make every single history developed within the Chinese border into Chinese history.

This violates the UNESCO Charter that ‘the peace must therefore be founded, if it is not to fail, upon the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind.’

This also violates the “Recommendation concerning Education for Peace,” which emphasizes writing accurate and unbiased history and geography textbooks.

“Member States should encourage wider exchanges of textbooks, especially history and geography textbooks, and should, where appropriate, take measures, for the reciprocal study and revision of textbooks and other educational materials in order to ensure that they are accurate, balanced, up to date and unprejudiced and will enhance mutual knowledge and understanding between different peoples.”

The reason UNESCO emphasizes intellectual solidarity in the Charter, especially in history and geography education, is based on historical experience.

This is because the ignorance of each other and the misunderstanding of history and geography were triggers for wars.

Once the project to expand China’s history and geographic boundaries, including extending the length of the Great Wall, is completed, China will justify its invasion of foreign territories, which will serve as a momentum to expand its hegemony into neighboring countries.

We know so well that China’s distortion of history is the starting point of its expansion, so we raise the issue for world peace.

Please join the petition to block China’s hegemony and to promote accurate history education and peaceful exchanges.

First, we demand UNESCO to advise China to abort the project distorting the facts regarding the Great Wall.

Second, we request the National Administration of Cultural Heritage(国家文物局) of China to stop extending the length of the Great Wall to expand its history.

중국의 쭉쭉 늘어나는 고무줄 만리장성을 고발합니다.

중국의 만리장성의 길이 늘이기가 갈수록 심각해지고 있습니다.

중국 국가문물국은 2000년대 중반에 만리장성 길이를 6천km, 2009년에는 8천851km라고 발표했다가 2012년에는 2만1천196.18km라고 늘렸습니다.

심지어 2020년 현재 중국은 만리장성이 한반도 평양까지 뻗어있었다고 왜곡하여 전세계에 홍보하고 있습니다.

이는 한국역사속 고구려( Goguryeo kingdom 37 BC – AD 668) 와
발해( Balhae kingdom 698 - 926 )가 쌓은 성까지 중국 만리장성에 포함한 것입니다.

중국정부는 현재의 국경을 기준으로 자국 영토 내에 있는 성은 모두 만리장성이라는 왜곡된 주장을 펴고 있으며, 이를 통해 고구려와 발해까지 중국의 역사로 만들려고 하고 있습니다

하지만 오늘날 한국의 영문 국호인 KOREA는 한국역사속 고려의 국호에서 전세계에 널리 알려지게 되었고, 고려를 건국한 왕건은 고려가 고구려를 계승했음을 국제적으로 선언했습니다.

이처럼 고구려가 문화, 이름까지 분명한 한민족 고대국가임을 나타냄에도 불구하고
중국이 고구려를 중국의 역사로 왜곡하는것은 동북공정 프로젝트의 일환입니다.

동북공정 프로젝트는 중국 국경 안에서 전개된 모든 역사를 중국역사로 만들기 위해 2002∼2007년 중국 정부가 추진한 연구 프로젝트입니다.

이는 인류의 지적, 도덕적 연대위에 평화를 건설해야한다는 유네스코 헌장에 위반되는 행위입니다.

뿐만 아니라 정확하고, 편견 없는 역사와 지리교과서 집필을 강조하는 평화를 위한 교육 권고에도 위반됩니다.

유네스코 회원국은 폭넓은 교과서 교류, 그 중에서도 특히 역사와 지리 교과서 교류를 장려해야 하며, 그들 자료가 정확하고, 적절하며, 새로우며, 편견이 없다는 것을 보장하고 다른 나라 사람과 지식을 나누고 이해를 촉진할 수 있는 상호 연구와 교과서 및 기타 교육 자료 개정을 위한 조치를 취해야 합니다.

유네스코가 헌장에 지적 연대를 강조하고, 특히 역사와 지리교육에서 정보의 정확성과 편견없음을 강조하는 이유는 역사적 경험에 기반합니다.

서로에 대한 무지와 잘못된 역사관, 지리 인식이 전쟁의 계기가 되었기 때문입니다.

만리장성의 길이를 늘리는 작업을 비롯한 중국의 역사와 지리적 경계를 확장하는 사업이 완수되면, 중국은 외국 영토에 대한 침략에 정당성을 얻게 될 것이고,
이는 주변국으로 패권을 확장하는 계기가 될 것입니다.

중국의 역사왜곡은 그 출발점임을 너무 잘 알기에 우리는 '세계 평화'를 위해 문제를 제기합니다.

중국의 패권을 저지하기 위해, 평화로운 교류와 정확한 역사교육을 장려하기 위한 청원에 함께해 주세요.

하나, 유네스코는 중국의 만리장성 왜곡 작업을 중단할 것을 권고하라.

둘, 중국 국가문물국은 만리장성의 길이를 늘려 자국의 역사를 확장하는 작업을 중단하라.
