I am writing this because my school, Chaminade High School, has implemented a ban on keyboard iPad cases. This decision is deeply affecting students like myself who rely on these devices for efficient studying and note-taking. The ban, they say, is to prevent the improper use of AI technology, but in reality, this measure fails to achieve its intended purpose.

The assumption that removing keyboard cases will stop the misuse of AI tools is flawed. Students still have access to AI through other devices and methods. Instead of outright bans that hinder productivity, a better approach would be educating students on responsible technology use and implementing software solutions that can monitor AI misuse directly.

For many of us, keyboard cases transform our iPads into versatile tools that allow us to keep up with our studies, take organized notes, and enhance our learning experience. They are not luxury items but necessary aids, especially as more educational materials and assignments are digitalized in our school's curriculum.

Furthermore, data shows that technology enhances learning and prepares students for the digital literacy required in the modern workplace. For instance, numerous studies have indicated that typing notes can help in the retention of information, and digital tools are essential for the collaborative projects that are increasingly common in educational settings.

By banning keyboard cases, Chaminade High School is placing unnecessary limits on our ability to learn effectively. This ban does not align with the educational goals of equipping us for future challenges, as technology is an integral part of both academic success and career readiness.

We urge the administration to reconsider this decision and instead focus on solutions that address the root causes of AI misuse without compromising our educational tools. Let's work together towards a policy that both fosters a responsible use of technology and supports our academic success.
