Undelete journals in DeviantArt

The Issue

Have you ever stumbled across a journal entry you deleted in a moment of impulsiveness and later regretted it? You're not alone; I've been there too. DeviantArt is a vibrant community of artists, and our journals are an integral part of our creative journey. They serve as personal diaries, a space for reflections, critiques, and artistic breakthroughs.

That's why I am reaching out with a plea to introduce a feature in DeviantArt that allows us to recover deleted journals. Perhaps you, like me, have deleted a journal entry and later wished you could get it back—to reminisce, to reignite inspirations, or to share our evolving journey with the world. These journals are not just text; they reflect our growth, our struggles, and our creative evolution.

Moreover, online platforms like WordPress and Facebook already offer 'undelete' features that let users recover deleted content for a certain period of time. Why can't DeviantArt offer something similar? By implementing an undelete feature, DeviantArt would not only enhance user satisfaction but also support artists in documenting their progress without fear of losing crucial diary entries.

We understand that server space and data management pose challenges. However, by introducing a time-limited recovery option (for instance, allowing journals especially permanently deleted ones to be recovered within no more than 3 days of deletion), artists can make informed decisions, reduce accidental deletions while still manage storage efficiently.

Please sign this petition to urge DeviantArt to incorporate an undelete feature for journal entries. Let's enhance our artistic community by ensuring we hold onto every piece of our creative journey.

*"Journals are more than posts; they are the living record of an artist’s journey. They capture reflections, milestones, creative struggles, and community connections that go beyond the artwork itself. Yet on DeviantArt, once a journal is deleted, it disappears permanently, erasing not only the words but the history and meaning behind them.

By restoring the ability to undelete journals, DeviantArt would empower artists to reclaim their voices, preserve their narratives, and continue their growth without fear of permanent loss. A deleted journal might hold insights into an artist’s evolution, document collaborations, or serve as a timeline of creative milestones. Bringing them back would strengthen the community archive, ensuring that personal stories remain part of the collective memory.

This change isn’t just technical—it’s symbolic. It affirms that every artist’s journey matters, that reflections deserve to be preserved, and that our platforms should honor the living, evolving nature of creativity. Supporting this petition means supporting the right of artists to remember, reimagine, and revive their own history."*
