Bring back night bus services! #UndefunctSingaporeNightServices
The Issue
Singapore Night bus services has been around since the 26th of May 2000 with Trans-Island, now SMRT Buses. SBS (Now SBS Transit) also introduced them on the 23rd of June 2000.
Night bus service guides from the 2000s also feature free coupons such as a free drink or free entry at a nightclub.
They have been suspended at the start of the CB (Circuit Breaker) and only recently has started to defunct them. Night taxis and night grabs do exist and eat up the demand from night bus services but there's some left, especially on Public holidays such as New Years Day.
Recently, LTA announced the reason why today, but not a proper one. "The decision to withdraw these bus services comes after carefully evaluating factors such as ridership, availability of alternatives, financial prudency and freeing up finite resources. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for these bus services has been low and there are alternatives available to commuters."
First off, ridership is slowly yet accelerating if you did not suspend such services. Secondly, the availability of alternatives to the poor is limited if not nonexistent. Thirdly, Financial prudency can be solved if LTA deploys BYD C6s on those services instead of the usual A22s and Citaros. Finally, finite staff resources can be conserved if you implement a booking system for those who needed the most, think CM1 (a sharetransport service) for example.

As of 12 Janurary 2023, A&S Transit has just announced that they are bringing night bus services back. Although it is not what we kind of hoped for, we are still happy that a private bus company is able to do something that a public bus operator could not due to BCM guidelines. Stay tuned for more updates here!
