UNCW Softball: Do Not Call Softball Out
Marilyn vos Savan said, "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.” The softball program has faced its fair share of defeat in the past years but with a new coaching staff we are on the up rise and have won more games than previous years. We pour blood, sweat and tears into Boseman field every day. Every game, every day, every year is a new opportunity. We build on yesterday’s success and put the failures behind us and start over again. That is the way life is, a new game every day, and that is the way softball is. We are dedicated to making this program a success, the little girls that come to every game hoping to one day also be on the field and stand out there as we do with pride with UNCW across our chest. This program has double the wins of last year and the community provides a great environment at every game showing their undying support. Our community stands fully behind us because we are not just role models on the field but off the field as well. The UNCW softball team not only competes on the field but off the field as well beating out all other UNCW sports in the canned food drive providing people in need with 240 cans. Also, as a team we attended a middle school softball practice to help motivate and improve the girl’s skills, with our support and help their team won their first game ever in the following week. We not only provided our support here in our community but also overseas. We adopted a US solider this year named Billy Torgerson, who we wrote to constantly updating him on our season and asking him questions about his family and his deployment. We provided him a UNCW softball t-shirt that he could wear with pride as we do. He expressed how many times how happy he was to receive our letters and how proud he was of us and our program. We finally have a program we can be proud of! As an athlete we are always told to improve every day by cutting our program because of we don’t bring in a sufficient amount of revenue shows us that even when we strive to be better and succeed it does not matter in the eyes of the university. Ending this program is a permanent solution to a team we plan to turn into greatness!
