UNC Title IX Petition

The Issue

The new Title IX rules allow universities like UNC to sweep sexual assault under the rug and limit survivors’ rights. 1 in 3 undergraduate womxn have experienced sexual assault.* This is unacceptable. Education should not come with the cost of violence. Sign this petition and share with your friends to help create policies that make our campus safer.

DeVos’ new regulations will require schools to dismiss cases of sexual assault that do not occur on school grounds even though 92% of sexual assaults involving middle school, high school, and college students occur off-campus.** Students are 3-5 times more likely to experience sexual assault while studying abroad, but, under the new rule, schools would be forced to ignore this violence.*** Sexual violence affects students regardless of where it occurs. The new Title IX policy will discourage survivors from reporting their sexual assault and create unnecessary barriers to receiving support and accommodations. Title IX is meant to protect every student’s right to an education free from violence. Instead, this rule would push survivors out of school.

But, there is room for UNC to do better. UNC can adopt policies that are supportive of all students, while still abiding by the federal regulations. Sign on now to demand a safer UNC for everyone.
