Unblock Spotify on Baltimore City Public School System Network

Unblock Spotify on Baltimore City Public School System Network
The Issue
I am a student in the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS), and like many others, I rely on Spotify to help me focus on my work. Music is not just entertainment for us; it's a tool that aids our concentration, improves our mood, and enhances our productivity. Unfortunately, BCPSS has blocked access to Spotify on its network.
Spotify is one of the world's leading music streaming platforms with over 574 million active users (source: DemandSage). It offers an extensive library of songs from various genres that cater to different tastes and moods. For many students like me, it serves as an essential part of our study routine.
The American Psychological Association has reported that listening to music can significantly improve cognitive performance (source: APA). Blocking access to such a beneficial tool seems counterproductive in an educational environment where we are encouraged to utilize all resources available for better learning outcomes.
We understand the concerns about potential distractions or inappropriate content. However, these issues can be addressed by implementing usage guidelines or parental controls rather than outright blocking the service.
We urge BCPSS officials to reconsider their decision and unblock Spotify on their network. This will not only benefit students' academic performance but also contribute positively towards creating a more conducive learning environment.
Please sign this petition if you support unblocking Spotify in BCPSS schools.
