As residents of this neighborhood located on East Mountain, Scranton, PA, we are raising our voices against the unauthorized Airbnb located on East Mountain. Despite local zoning laws not allowing this type of business to operate here unless the property owner secures a variance and resides at the address six months out of the year, the owners have been running their Airbnb business at that address. 

Recent studies reveal that non-owner-occupied short term rentals, especially those facilitated by Airbnb, have inherent effects on communities, causing disruption, safety issues and a can potentially disrupt the housing market. 

Our neighborhood is not a commercial zone - it is our homes. It’s a place where we’ve built our lives, raised our children and found a shared sense of community. Permitting an Airbnb in our neighborhood undervalues the residential zoning regulations that keep our neighborhood peaceful, safe and homelike. 

We call upon our city’s zoning board to uphold our zoning laws and protect our residential neighborhood to maintain the quality of life we’ve come to enjoy. Sign this petition to stand with us in opposition to this Airbnb and guard the sanctity of our residential neighborhood.
