On November 2, 2015 the UMBC Athletic Director, Timothy Hall, announced that the Athletic Department and the UMBC Administration had finalized their decision to terminate the UMBC Men's and Women's Tennis Teams at the end of the 2015-2016 season. The members of the tennis teams and their coaches were never told that their program was in jeopardy of being cut until the day the administration had finalized it's decision. The UMBC Policy on Adding or Terminating a Varsity Sports Team is riddled with loopholes that deny student-athletes the rights of administrative transparency, information, and participation in the decision-making process, which allowed UMBC to cut the Tennis teams without consulting any of the people affected by the decision. We are petitioning the Athletic Department to keep the Men's and Women's Tennis Team and to amend the Administration's Policy on Adding or Terminating a Varsity Sport to prevent the University from unjustly dissolving an intercollegiate sports program in the future.
