UM: Extend Module Registration Period for Final Stage Students

The Issue

WE NEED MORE TIME TO REGISTER MODULES, DUE TO MAYA CRASHES, LIMITED MODULE CAPACITIES, UNABLE TO VIEW RESULTS, AND ZERO BALANCE POLICY

  • Currently, many final-year students are facing tremendous difficulties in meeting the current registration deadlines due to financial, technical, and capacity constraints. They could not make the 8th April, 11:30 p.m. deadline.

  • MAYA has crashed again during the first day (5 March 2025) of Final-Stage students' module regsitration, leaving most students unable to register for required modules.

  • Response delays concerning University Management Academic Learning Support System (UM-ATLAS), by Jabatan Teknologi Maklumat, prevent us from viewing our results and impede clear decision on the registration process. Previously, those who did not fill in UM-ATLAS on time could submit Helpdesk and refill UM-ATLAS immediately to view results. Now, all students affected have to wait until UM-ATLAS reopens: but no clear response on when exactly.

  • The current Zero Balance Policy forces many students to make full payments, of thousands of Ringgit, in a very tight timeframe of just 3 days. This poses a financial challenge for students who may not have immediate access to funds, and need to pay by installment.

  • The 3 main issues above causes delays in student module registration: Affected students cannot register for modules they need in order to graduate on-time by this semester.

This causes DISTRESS: putting final-year students's GRADUATION ON HOLD, as students are unable to register for the key courses needed to fulfill graduation requirements.

Understanding the urgency of this matter, we are requesting an extension in the registration period specifically for FINAL-STAGE STUDENTS. A flexible and more reasonable timeframe will not only allow us to manage our finances better but would also provide an alternative for unexpected technical glitches.

We urge UNIVERSITI MALAYA to empathise with our plight. Please sign this petition and support our request to extend the module registration period for final stage students.
