There are couples with weddings taking place during the coronavirus pandemic whose venue has taken the decision to cancel the day either because the Registrar is refusing to attend, a five person limit is being imposed or simply due to fear, who are not offering the opportunity to postpone the wedding with an alternative date.  There are venues who are cancelling weddings and refusing to be flexible and refusing to refund monies paid which can run in to tens of thousands of pounds. If the couple are insured, insurance companies are refusing to pay out as the Government has not directed venues to close or there hasn't been a confirmed diagnosis of the virus at the venue. Unscrupulous venue owners are refusing to be flexible, breaking their contract and keeping the monies paid. Couples with imminent weddings will have paid in full. We urge the Government to put a stop to this practice and either:- officially cancel all weddings for a set period and allow couples to claim on their insurance for the full amount paid out or compel venues to refund in full any monies paid if the venue cancels and does not want to rearrange a date. No one should be out of pocket due to this pandemic especially when most couples have spent years planning and saving for their special day.
