Suspension of tv and online betting advertising until Corona Virus problems are resolved
The Issue
According to the NHS long term plan, more than 400,000 people in England are problem gamblers and at least two million people are at risk. The Chief Executive of NHS England pointed out in 2019 that the gambling industry spends £1.5 Billion a year on marketing, but under £10 million towards picking up the health consequences.
During the Corona Virus pandemic, when people are isolated at home, more people will become susceptible to gambling advertising and the associated addiction. This is a time when NHS resources can least afford to have a future wave of even more gambling problems to deal with.
Please suspend all TV and online gambling advertising until the pandemic is officially declared to be over. Help those who may otherwise become addicted, or attempt to solve their current financial problems through gambling.
