Stop the Anti-Refugee Bill
The Issue
This Government is trying to pass an anti-refugee bill (also known as the Nationality and Borders Bill) that is the biggest attack on refugee protection we have ever seen.
It is dangerous, cruel and life-threatening for people seeking safety in the UK. It will:
- Punish desperate people whose only way to get to safety is to take dangerous routes to the UK.
- Criminalise them and strip away their rights, making it impossible for them to rebuild their lives.
- Treat the claims of asylum seekers as inadmissible.
- Deport and lock up people in need of refugee protection.
Send people to detention centres in other countries in order to process their asylum claims – something that we know will be a humanitarian disaster. - Further restrict access to support and legal advice, meaning that asylum claims are less likely to be heard through a fair process.
- Force people to remain separated from their families and make dangerous journeys. It will not set out alternative resettlement schemes or safe routes away from persecution.
If this bill becomes law, it will slam the door on people fleeing war, persecution and torture.
You can help us to stand up to this Government and say no to these cruel plans by signing our petition and pledging your support. We will take this list of supporters to our local MP as a way of showing how his constituents will not stand for this attack on human rights.
We need you to advocate for the right to safety, the right to belonging and the right to dignity. Stand with us in solidarity and make a difference.
