Football has brought the UK together after a period of trauma. The performance and conduct of the England team in particular has generated excitement and pride. Their commitment as a group of players and coaches to developing team spirit and collective support has been inspirational.

And yet the players continue to face racist abuse and some oppose their action in taking a stand against racism. This petition is aimed at showing the England players that they are not alone: that we thank them for their courage and for taking a stand and that we join with them in demanding more action from all with the power to do so to fight racism.

Parliament should immediately debate this issue and bring forward urgent proposals for action. The footballers have done their job - it’s time for lawmakers to do theirs.
