The Guianan rainforest is untouched. It has wildlife and species that are undiscovered - including mammals! It holds around 50% of the worlds biodiversity. And it locks away 2.7 billions tonnes of carbon.
However, the country is poor. And they have a choice. Allow logging of this invaluable unspoilt rainforest. Or, subject to agreement from other wealthier countries, get carbon credits and keep this precious forest intact.
They recently made an offer to the UK government for just this - carbon credits to save this rainforest. But nothing has been agreed, and time is running out fast. They simply cannot afford to wait.
