There are a number of products on the market at the moment that are sold as suitable for Hedgehogs. Some of the contents of these products contain sunflower seeds, meal worms, calci worms, honey, etc. The products that are being sold can also state that these products are good for Hedgehogs and promote better bone heath. Although these animals are happy to eat these ingredients they are not good for them at all.  They can cause many issues for the Hedgehogs health and well-being. Too much of these products cause teeth issues and metabolic bone disease in hedgehogs. MBD. Metabolic Bone Disease in hedgehogs is a crippling, agonising condition that eventually kills. It is caused by eating foods that are too high in phosphorus and too low in calcium. The worst foods are mealworms, sunflower hearts, peanuts and oats.These lovely creatures are becoming extinct and therefore we must protect them as much as we can.  Any product that is sold specifically for Hedgehogs must be regulated by the government with better guidelines for manufacturers so that they do not include ingredients that are harmful to Hedgehogs.
