Raise the legal age of consent from 16 to 18 in the UK

Raise the legal age of consent from 16 to 18 in the UK
The Issue
The legal age of consent in the UK is currently 16. The age of an adult is considered to be 18 by law in the UK. By this thinking, we are saying a child is legally allowed to consent to intercourse with a fully grown adult of any age, meaning there is an overlap where paedophilia is actually legal.
A 16 year old is still very much a child and no where near enough emotionally developed to consent to intercourse with a fully grown adult, meaning there are still many young people vulnerable to grooming. In a society where buying alcohol is even illegal till 18, why are we allowing this?
