Pharmacy teams to receive antigen testing for COVID-19

UPDATE: "PSNC has confirmed with HM Government that the new testing programme will be available to community pharmacy – we will make further details available when they are provided." - Ref: https://psnc.org.uk/our-news/covid-19-update-nhs-testing-and-complaints/

This is a victory for community pharmacy, but more information is needed.  For example, does this relate to ALL community pharmacists across the UK? We also need to support our hospital pharmacy teams!

Pharmacy teams are the most accessible healthcare professional. Fact. So why is it that they haven't been included in the first batch of NHS staff to receive antigen testing for COVID-19?

Pharmacy teams come into contact with hundreds of people each day. They don't know who is carrying what, and a lot of them don't even have the necessary personal protective equipment required.

Pharmacists don't just stick labels on boxes. Trust me, 5 years of training has taught us to do a lot more than that. The NHS would be crumbling if it wasn't for the commitment and dedication of pharmacy teams. They are always the unsung heroes.

Change is needed.
