Hi Everyone,

I’m Kayla K and one of my cats, Keith, isn’t feeling well and needs a trip to the vets. Here’s the problem: our family are low on income at the moment, because of the current situation, so cannot afford all of the additional costs that come with taking your animal to a vet. I would like to enforce free healthcare for pets in the UK- this would include free consultations, essential injections and treatments to keep our lovely animals healthy and happy. 

It costs around £50 just to take your animal to the vets and get them generally examined with no treatment or special medicines etc. included. If your pet then needs extra medical attention, you may then need to pay up to £300 for injections, tablets, or treatments, which you may not be able to obtain on the day if you are in a rough financial situation. 

“Don’t get an animal then”- this is a silly comment. Humans buy animals for comfort and love, almost like having a child. However at this point we do not realise the additional, vast costs that these cute, loving animals may unintentionally bring to us. “Get pet insurance”- this only covers extreme cases such as a pet needing £10,000 surgery, for example, and not essential trips to the vet to check that your animal is healthy. 

I believe that if this petition was successful, there would be less abandonment of animals. The reason being, a lot of these poor animals’ owners are not financially stable enough to pay for the medical bills and therefore abandon them rather than watch their health deteriorate in front of them. It’s a sad reality, but by signing this petition you could help animals and their owners all around the country.
