We ask the parliament to debate a vote of no confidence in the newly appointed Environment Secretary Michael Gove.
On Monday 12th June 2017 Teresa May made Michael Gove the new Environment Secretary.
As someone who deeply cares about environmental change and the state of our planet I was (as I am sure others were), horrified when I heard this news. I cannot think of a more Ill equipped M.P for the position than Michael Gove.
His contributions as Education Secretary were of low standard and quality unfit for this country, but letting our critical environmental issues be left in his hands is despicable.
He has a record of voting against environmentally friendly measures Including but not exclusively- In 2016, he voted against reducing the carbon dioxide emission rate permitted in new homes. In 2011 he voted in favour of selling off all 635,000 acres of public woodlands and forest preserved by the Forestry Commission. In 2015 he voted against requiring an environmental permit for hydraulic fracking activities. He also voted against a review of the impact of fracking on climate change and the environment. In 2012 and 2013 voted for the badger cull, pro lifting the ban on fox hunting,2016, he voted against reducing the carbon dioxide emission rate permitted in new homes and as Education Secretary in 2013 attempted to remove climate change from the Geography curriculum.
Michael Gove is not fit for office and we urge the Prime Minister to revoke his appointment as Environmental Secretary. Our environment is precious and absolutely vital to a healthy population and thriving tourist industry. We have absolutely no confidence in Mr Gove being able to protect it for this and future generations.
