The pandemic has created an unprecedented demand for dogs and cats.  Animal theft has become commonplace and owners are being physically attacked for their pets.  Many pets end up in the hands of unscrupulous breeders and dealers who profit at the expense of the animals health and wellbeing.  Many pets change hands multiple times or end up being used for breeding in indescribably hellish conditions.   Yet, animal charities are struggling to cope with the staggering number of unwanted and abandoned pets.  There is a way to control this cycle of terrible suffering.  Make it compulsory for dog and cat breeders AND dealers to register, pay a licence fee and be subject to regular checks to ensure they are following a code of conduct.  Breeding and selling dogs and cats without legal registration should carry a fine and a prison sentence.  The UK can lead the way in eradicating pet farms and the exploitation of dogs and cats for profit.  The only people who can object are the people currently exploiting the animals for profit.  We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers.  Let’s prove it.  Please sign this petition and pass it on to someone else who cares.
