Include cats in the list of animals protected by the Road Traffic Act
The Issue
Why?
Dogs are protected under the Road Traffic Act as well as a number of other animals, but cats and foxes aren't. This means, it's currently illegal to not stop and report hitting a dog, but if it's a cat or fox you're under no legal obligation.
What is the difference? The answer is, there is none. Cats are as much man's best friend and are as much a part of any family than any type of pet, they deserve the same treatment and care, as do foxes and other wild animals.
This morning I had to witness several cars swerving around a deceased cats body, passing by although it was very clear what was in the road. I imagine they would've stopped if it was a dog. If it was illegal to NOT stop after hitting a cat, the cat would've been moved and the correct people notified immediately, not left for hours and hours in the road. If that was your pet, you'd be heartbroken.
Cats deserve the same amount of respect, so please sign this petition
