Make it illegal to drive away from cats that have been hit by cars

The Issue

On the 28th of July 2020, My cat gave birth to four gorgeous kittens, two of which I kept and I gave the other two to my parents. The two that stayed with me were two gorgeous little boys, one grey and white and the other being all black. I fell in love with them, in particular the grey and white one. His name was Bailey. Bailey was a soft friendly kitten who used to climb my trousers to just hang onto my hip as I walked around my home. I loved him so much, recently it was his first birthday he was finally a year old! he was always an adventurous cat who loved exploring every corner of my street. I would often find him in a bush playing with his brother or up a tree. Unfortunately during one of his adventures on the 20th of August 2021, He was run over and sadly passed away.

The day I found out he had passed I was contacted by the vets confirming he had passed and that a lady had brought him into the vets shortly after he had passed. The lady who took him in found out about Baileys death on a facebook group. This lady wasn't the driver who hit Bailey. However the driver who actually did hit Bailey continued to drive off and leave him alone and afraid on the side of the road. Bailey was only one years old.

Bailey is the reason I've decided its time to make a change within our driving laws. Did you know that if a driver was to hit a dog they would have to report it to the police immediately by law. Yet with cats no law stands, drivers are free to go about their day without worrying about the family who are missing apart of themselves as someone else deals with the poor beloved pet. I truly believe its time for a change within our laws to make it so that if a driver does hit a cat that they must report it to the local animal carelines (e.g local vets or the RSPCA). Bailey could've had his chance at surviving no matter how small it was, if only the driver had stopped.

With your help of signing this petition we could take this to Parliament and hopefully change the laws of driving to make sure no family or cat goes without suffering the same fate both Bailey and I had ever again.
