Make attacks with acid/chemically corrosive substances an 'Attempted Murder' offence

Attacks using acid are on the rise in the UK. Given the brutal nature of using a chemically corrosive substance to attack a member/members of the public and the problematic physical state of liquids that make them difficult to control or even to target at a single person, the crime of assault using this potentially indiscriminate weapon should be elevated to a deterrent level of 'attempted murder'. Just as the illegal possession of firearms has a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years in prison (for those over 21), there should be a mandatory offence of attempted murder levelled at those arrested for attacking others with acid or other such corrosive substances. This abhorrent use of chemical weaponry on our streets must stop and must not spread further in our country.
