Make all letterboxes reasonable height.
As a postie delivering letters every day, I have noticed a trend in low letterboxes. More and more people are getting new doors and putting the letterbox at the bottom. You may think so what? Let me explain. A delivery round can have between 500 and 600 houses on it, some more. Even following correct guidelines for bending down - bending at the knees, back straight etc. The wear and tear on the spine can have it's effect. Even if only 25% of the houses on a delivery route have a low letterbox that's between 125 and 150 times that postie has to bend down and reach for that delivery point. I propose that it become law that all new doors fitted have a letterbox at a reasonable height, approx waist height. There's no point having a letterbox that your short postie cannot reach either. This is already law for new builds, so why not all new frontdoors? I also propose that in the next 5 years it becomes law that ALL letterboxes are of a reasonable height. I'm not sure why people are favouring this placement for their letterboxes but it has to stop, your posties back depends on it. Thinking of getting a new door? Please think about where you put that letterbox.
