Let a trafficked Romanian orphan with learning difficulties stay in the UK

Asan is a Day Service member. He has been attending for two and a half years and has formed many happy memories during his time here.
On Wednesday 1st November, in just five days’ time, Asan is being sent to his place of birth in Romania. Asan was brought up in an orphanage in Romania and then fell into exploitation due to his learning disability and vulnerability. He was trafficked to England to be used in modern slavery. Fortunately he was saved from this, and was brought to us where he has received care and support and is now thriving.
Asan is happy here. He has formed friendships and learned how to speak English. He attends our Day Services three days a week and has developed so many new skills during his time with us. He goes to a farm to work with the animals; he learns literacy and numeracy; he has learned how to cook.
Asan does not want to go back to Romania. He has been very clear about this to our staff members. He is looking forward to Halloween and Christmas surrounded by people he loves, and who love him. Yet because Asan has a learning disability, he has been given no choice. He is to be sent back to Romania with very little in the way of a transition plan or support to understand what is happening to him.
We are all devastated and would like you to share this post if you believe, like us, that this shouldn’t be happening. We ask you to raise awareness of this exceptional young man who sees the people in his life as his family. If you have any contacts who may be able to help, we would appreciate any advice you can offer us.
