Death is not environmentally friendly. Cemeteries take up hundreds of square kilometres. Thousands of trees are cut down for caskets. Embalming the dead consumes millions of litres of toxic chemicals each year, and cremation uses over 100 litres of fuel to incinerate you at over 600C releasing 220kg of CO2 in greenhouse emissions.

Natural organic reduction is an individual process that places a body into a vessel where naturally occurring microbes and bacteria gradually break down the body over a 30-50 day period. The resulting compost, just like any other compost, can be used for rebuilding or regenerating woods, nourishing a tree or houseplant.

Human composting would add a natural ecologically friendly funerary option that enables a person to return to, and renourish the soil from which we all came.

It has already been legalised in a few US States and is proving a very popular after-death option.
