Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) labels specific breeds of dogs as dangerous dogs.  There is a false image created of certain breeds that they are dangerous, yet any dog has the potential to be aggressive if they are threatened.  Aggression is often caused by the people concerned, not the dog.  The fair way to judge a dog is on its own specific actions, not what breed it happens to be.  Breed is not a good judge of whether a dog is at risk of becoming aggressive.  It is also worth pointing out that the law has not reduced the number of dog attacks which have increased.

Such laws are usually stirred up based on specific cases, not based on any actual scientific evidence of any breed being dangerous or not. The trauma also caused to a family when a loved and gentle pet is euthanized is immense. 

Many legislatures are starting to see that these unfair laws penalise perfectly safe dogs and do not tackle the problem.  Italy has repealed Breed Specific Legislation.  21 of the 50 state-level governments in the United States prohibit or restrict jurisdictions from enforcing Breed Specific Legislation. 

We call on the United Kingdom Government to repeal section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and to replace it with a policy that is fair to all dogs and does not cause unnecessary trauma and euthanasia.
