I am creating this petition with the intention of once again raising the proposition of introducing a tax on meat and animal products in the UK. Animal product consumption is a leading cause of heart disease, strokes and several prominent cancers in the UK, yet no action is taken to reduce the consumption of these products that are considered as dangerous as Class 2 carcinogens such as cigarettes.

Coupling this with the increasingly unavoidable damage the animal products industry is causing to our planet with the factory farm industry itself due to overtake the aviation and transport industry as the highest cause of Co2 emissions world wide. The latest pandemic that has claimed the lives of thousands around the world was caused by unsanitary and unsafe conditions in the wet markets of China, these should be signs that our involvement with animals is causing harm on an unprecedented scale. It's time that those in charge stand up and take action for our futures and the future of our children.

Lastly the conditions these poor animals are kept in and handled over the course of their sort lives would be enough to make stomachs turn around the world. Too many people happily ignore where their meat comes from and don't realise the horrible pain these innocent creatures suffer all in the name of taste and fashion. Gas chambers, knives to the throat, ripped away screaming from their children or mothers, skinned alive for pelts, raped and forcibly impregnated for OUR benefit. It's sick and those that claim they value animal life should be aware of these gruesome realities.

Take a stand for those that can't stand for themselves. Choose to help these beautiful creatures by imposing a heavy tax on meat (just as we did on sugar). Sugar was deemed a danger to our health services and our childrens well-being, why isn't meat being treated the same way. I want this petition to raise the issue once again that meat should be treated the same as sugar, cigarettes and alcohol. As a dangerous consumable that is taxed to fund the damage it causes.
