Emma Monkman started this petition to UK Parliament

Honey is a much loved member of our family. She is absolutely terrified by the loud bangs which accompany fireworks. She cowers and clings to us when they go off. She isn't alone in this horror. Fireworks are; frightening, damaging to air quality and the environment and dangerous.

The current UK legislation from 2004 states that fireworks must not exceed 120db and a license IS NOT NEEDED. This needs to change. 120db is the same as a jet engine. it is accepted that anything over 70db can cause damage to hearing. Imagine how frightening and damaging this is to animals that, unlike Honey, don't have someone to cling to.

Fireworks cause extensive air pollution as they release chemicals into the environment, some of which never disappear. The fine particles released are linked to negative health implications and respiratory conditions.

I like watching fireworks but they need to be licensed, silenced and used sparingly. Shanghai used drones to wonderful effect for their 2020 celebrations. The technology is there. For those who can't I have started this petition to reform the outdated regulations on their behalf. Sign for the environment, animals and health. Thank you.
