Petition updateEnd the liesFrom False Claims to Election Gains: The Dangerous Rise of Reform UK

The recent rise of Reform UK underscores why our campaign to ban politicians from lying is more urgent than ever.

Our legislation would disqualify from office any politician or candidate that deliberately deceives the public.

This is not just about one party; it’s about a broken system that allows deception to flourish unchecked. We need your support to change this.

Here are five recent examples of Reform UK’s misleading statements which risk distorting the political landscape:

  1. Inventing a Problem on DEI Roles: Reform UK’s Andrea Jenkyns pledged to scrap Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion roles in Lincolnshire County Council—roles that don’t exist. A Freedom of Information request confirmed it. Their attempt to rebrand unrelated jobs only confuses voters.

  2. Hypocrisy on Remote Work: Nigel Farage declared “no more working from home” to boost productivity—while his party advertised remote jobs. Even their chair admitted it’s unworkable due to lack of office space. A bold claim, quickly undone.

  3. The Unrealistic ‘British DOGE’: Farage wants a British version of Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” to audit councils, ignoring warnings from the National Audit Office that councils are already near collapse due to funding cuts. Efficiency without resources is a fantasy.

  4. Empty Promises on Asylum Policy: Reform UK’s vow to “resist” asylum seekers in their controlled councils, claiming they’re “dumped” in northern England, overlooks the fact that asylum policy is managed by the Home Office. Councils have little control—making the pledge more performance than policy.

  5. Distorting the Net Zero Debate: Reform UK brands net zero as “job-destroying,” while calling for more North Sea drilling. In reality, net zero sectors are bringing nearly £1 billion and over 12,000 jobs to Greater Lincolnshire. And most North Sea oil is exported—so it won’t lower UK energy bills.

Reform UK’s growing popularity, evidenced by their local election victories and 19% of YouGov respondents favoring them for their “better” approach, shows that voters are desperate for change. Yet, when that change is built on shaky promises, it risks further eroding trust in politics.

That’s where Compassion in Politics comes in. We’re not just highlighting the problem—we’re building a solution. Our campaign to ban lying in politics seeks to introduce legal accountability, with independent oversight and clear consequences for deliberate deception.

We’re raising an extra £10,000 to power the next stage of this campaign. Your donation will help us:

  • Lobby for Legal Reform: Push for laws to make political lying a punishable offence.
  • Raise Public Awareness: Educate voters and galvanise demand for change.
  • Expose Deception: Fund research to uncover and publicise political falsehoods.

Imagine a political culture where truth matters—where leaders can’t get away with lying. Whether you can give £5, £25, or £100, every pound brings us closer to that future.

The rise of Reform UK shows people want change. With your help, we can make sure it’s change rooted in truth, not deception.
